Earlier this week, I wrote about the 25,000 Alaska airline miles checking account offer with Bank of America.

Reader Gene commented that

But the problem is that on the application for the checking account it doesn’t actually ask for the Alaska air account #.

how does BOA know to where to credit the alaska miles?
theres no mention of alaska in the app & no reference code in the URL.

Reader Brandon also wrote in saying

Fine print says you must have the Alaska Mileage Plan Credit Card in good standing to receive the offer. It’s not good enough to just sign up for the checking account. Bummer, because this seemed like a pretty good opportunity to pad my already well-used Alaska Mileage Plan account.

So I thought I would log in to my Bank of America account to see what was up.  I ended up using the live chat feature, which was actually easy to find, unlike some companies (American Express, I’m looking at you!)

Bank of America: Good morning! Thank you for chatting with Bank of America! My name is [redacted]. How may I assist you today?
Dan Miller: Hi
Dan Miller: I recently signed up for an offer that gives 25,000 Alaska Airlines miles after making 2 direct deposits
Dan Miller: But there was nowhere to put in my Alaska Airlines frequent flyer number
Bank of America: We can certainly check on that offer for you, Dan.
Bank of America: Jut to clarify, is this for a credit card?
Dan Miller: no
Dan Miller: it was for a checking account
Bank of America: Please allow me a moment to research this for you.
Dan Miller: bankofamerica.com/alaskaoffer
Bank of America: I appreciate that link.
Bank of America: Almost done reviewing this offer.
Bank of America: I appreciate your patience.
Dan Miller: ok
Bank of America: I reviewed the offer and we will automatically deposit the points into your Alaska Airlines Card account.
Bank of America: I am getting the processing time for you now.
Dan Miller: okay
Dan Miller: but there was nowhere to put in my alaska airlines account number
Dan Miller: how will you know what account to put them in?
Bank of America: Because the offer is for the Alaska Airlines account that you have with us, we place it on the card that is linked with your Bank of America account.
Bank of America: You are not required to enter it for this promotion.
Bank of America: The points will show up within 60 days after your 2nd qualifying direct deposit.
Dan Miller: thanks for looking into that for me

Who’s eligible for the 25,000 Alaska airline miles offer?

So, it looks like that’s an easy answer to both of the questions

  1. You don’t need to put in your Alaska Airlines account number – it’s tied to your Alaska Airlines credit card
  2. If you don’t have an Alaska Airlines credit card, you’re not eligible for this offer.
  3. Also, if you do have the Alaska Airlines credit card, and you’re not sure if you’re eligible, I’d give them a call or chat – remember, the offer expires July 31st.
