The news came out today that Summer Hull, writer of the Mommy Points blog, has left Boarding Area to start up a new section at The Points Guy called TPG Family. Read the full press release here.
I’m a fan of anything that can put more spotlight on real world families traveling, and saving money through using miles and points. When I started Points With a Crew nearly 5 years ago, there were hardly any miles and points blogs talking about miles and points (ironically, given the subject of this post, Mommy Points was just about the only one)
Family travel articles on TPG Family
TPG Family started with several articles already written and posted. Here are a few of them
- The Best Airlines for Families in 2018
- 5 ways Families can get more from their miles
- How we’re exploring the country in an RV for a year – with 4 kids
- Getting ready for your child’s first flight: A Survival Guide
- Our Top 5 Family Travel Award Tips
- 21 Airlines that allow Families to Pool Miles
Most of these are written by Summer (Mommy Points) but there are a few guest contributors as well
Congratulations to Summer and looking forward to seeing more family travel posts

For 2 Million dollars Id sell out too!
Where did you hear 2 Million? I haven’t heard any details on that front
TPG, aka Bankrate, has become one of the most despised names/brands in the pointsofsphere due to their dishonesty with pushing affiliate links and signups. Sad to see MommyPoints join the most hated group too. I used to subscribe to her content. No more.
Bankrate is the one that acquired them all, not TPG. They’ve got TPG, Mommy Points, Million Mile Secrets, and more. It’s good to know what you’re reading, and what their motives are behind each post they write.
I agree that it’s important to know what the motives are of whoever is writing content, and it’s important to know if and how they make money from it.
I really wish this was just some awful joke. I like Summer. She writes from a different perspective from most other BA bloggers, and is a kind and genuine person. On the other hand, I just can’t abide a narcissistic huckster like TPG. That said, I wish her well.
That sucks. I never go to his site, too huckster for me.
Dan, thank you for sharing and I love the larger family travel angle you have brought to this space. Joining TPG is a big change for sure, but one that is in the direction of reaching more families who have no idea they can do what we do. Excited to see what the future holds for family travel and thank you again for sharing a peek at what is to come.
Mommy Points/Summer Hull has been CTRL+C & CTRL+V. Virtually all of her blogs & contents are old news. Cut & paste. Glad to see she is gone.
That’s sad. I mean, its really great to have someone focusing on family travel, which sometimes is greatly ignored, but joining TPG… Useless or old posts, ridiculous valuations, and just feeding that guy’s ego, pff .. Really hope she stays on top of here game and not relinquish to Bankrate.. Nevermind…
The corporate goal is clear – to tackle every possibly audience in order to “assist with travel”. However as some Buddhist see nirvana as the objective, so do bloggers dream of a buyout. Mommy points has always been just junk and Bankrate is a junk collector considering blogs like MMS. TPG has at least some quality to it. I don’t think any travel hacker ever visits sites like MMS or Mommy points but travel hackers are not the desired audience anyway as they are too experienced to be fooled easily by “great, amazing, free” and whatever other keywords the corporation uses to lure its followers.
said so truthfully
Exciting for her family. I’m sure it was too lucrative to pass up. I don’t read her blog or TPG much at all these days. She does have a good on camera presence though.
How terrible. You congratulate summer? How could she sell out and join obnoxious TPG who I finally cancelled last month. And today, wondering where my mommy points posts were, I was sent to TPG website. How horrible. Now I won’t read either of them because TPG isn’t th kind of read I like, just to make money, with inexperienced writers, ridiculous articles of no merit. I started five years ago with million mile secrets and mommy points, and now they are just totally different. Summer, I’m really disappointed in you! I thought you had morals and true dedication to what you did, and not to affiliate with TPG!
