Some interesting (and most travel-related!) stories that I found around the Internet recently:
- View from the Wing has a great piece about why airlines charge fees for checked bags. One part that I found interesting that I hadn’t thought about was when airlines charge for checked bags, it leads to more people just having carry-on luggage, which causes more full overhead bins, which causes a delay in airplane on-time performance, which costs the airline. On the other hand, last time our family flew Southwest, we had to keep track of 17 (SEVENTEEN!) pieces of luggage through the airport!
I was given 5 different retention offers when I called to close down my Citi Business card, and I had a hard time figuring out which (if any) I should choose. Tagging Miles reports on a similar experience with the Citibank retention department- I always wondered what happens to the half-used soaps and other toiletries after a hotel stay. Thankfully Heels First Travel has the scoop – I’m glad they don’t all just get thrown away.
- Here’s how to have fun in America’s “5 most boring cities” – an article from Roadtrippers.com. If you have never tried out Roadtrippers.com, here’s my review – it’s a great way to find fun things to do while on your next road trip.
- I used to think that the history of aviation was all at Kitty Hawk in North Carolina, until I studied up on the Wright Brothers and found that they did most of their work in Dayton and only went to Kitty Hawk because it was one of the windiest places out there. Here’s an article from the Columbus Dispatch about aviation history in nearby Columbus, Ohio.
