Need a way to earn extra points? Have a MasterCard? If you can answer “yes” to both of those questions, there’s a Plastiq promotion for you! Here’s an email I got
Now, you can use Masterpass™ through Plastiq to pay businesses that don’t accept credit or debit cards.
Starting today through September 30, 2018, we’ll waive the Plastiq fee when you use your Mastercard® in Masterpass when paying with Plastiq.* Promotion applies to any bill or invoice, up to a maximum of $500 each.
How to Use MasterPass on Plastiq
- Log into your Plastiq account.
- Click on your payment card in the top left of the screen.
- Click “Add New Card” then “More Ways to Pay”
- Select “Add a Card from MasterPass” If you already use a MasterCard on Plastiq, you might see an option for CitiPay, Capital One, or another bank. If you need to switch this, keep an eye out for a small button that says “Change Wallet.”
- Follow the MasterPass prompts. After setting up your account (if you need to), and selecting your payment card, MasterPass should redirect you to Plastiq. Plastiq will save your MasterPass information, but the MasterPass “card number” won’t match your payment card.
Here’s the good news: This Plastiq promotion is good on each payment up to $500 from now until September 30th! I went ahead and scheduled my rent payments through October 1st (the charge will hit my card prior to September 30th) with my MasterPass account. Sure enough, I’m paying Plastiq’s 2.5% fee only on the portion of my rent above the $500 MasterPass Plastiq promotion amount.
Guys. This promotion is practically unlimited! There’s no limit on the number of transactions you can make, according to the promotion’s terms. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to change the terms at some point, it’s a great opportunity to earn some points on bills that aren’t normally paid by credit card. For me, that means rent and utilities.
This is a great opportunity to put some extra spend on the MasterCard in your wallet this summer! If you don’t have a Plastiq account already, you can sign up with my link and you’ll get ANOTHER $500 fee free (on any card) once you make a $500 payment.

Hi, yesterday I paid my rent till September 30th and plastiq charged only above $500 for all schedule payments.
Very nice offer.
With ATT citi card I’m going to earn 3x TY points.
Great news Balu! Is your ATTAM still earning triple points? I think that may have ended for most Plastiq bills recently, mine isn’t working on my rent for the past few months.
Can you just make three payments of $500 for you rent so that you’re avoiding any service charge?
You sure could Heather! Mine would have to be 4 payments of $400 each, or 3 of $500 and 1 of $100. I just want to save my landlord the headache of dealing with that!
Can Plastiq be used to pay a credit card bill using another credit card?
No luck Daniel. Check out the terms and conditions below, Section 4.1.B.2

I used your referral link. Made a small utility payment using a linked Masterpass card. It charged a usage fee. Thought it was suppose to be fee free w/ Masterpass?
The email I got for this promotion stated it was only good for my email address – so you probably had to have an account previously.
Hi David, did you pay through Masterpass or just use a Mastercard? If you did use Masterpass it should definitely be fee-free, I’d give Plastiq customer service a shout.
I used Masterpass. Been signed up for many years. Just not worth my time to chase this down. I think this was targeted for existing customers.
Good luck with this one. I tried 4 times to make a rent payment last year. Eventually, a check was finally sent on the 4th try, but it was in Canadian dollars and couldn’t be deposited in the US. I tried again, double checked that it was USD. Again, the check in CAD. In the meantime, Chase was on fraud alert because they flagged any Plastiq transaction as relating to gambling or money laundering. I gave up after that.
Beware and only use Plastiq when it doesn’t matter very much when a payment was delivered.
Very odd Gus, I wonder what made it issue in CAD? DO you have a CAD billing or shipping address? I’ve used Plastic to pay rent for going on 3 years now never a late or missed payment, or any fraud alerts. YMMV
Cam – why not just schedule 4 payments of $400 each ($1600 total from your screenshot) on consecutive days leading up to your rent due date so you have no fee? I’ve been doing this with my mortgage.
I currently rent from a really great landlord, but he’s pretty old school. I just didn’t feel like giving him the headache of dealing with 4 checks every month!
Read on another blog that you must use a MC. I used a Visa in my Masterpass wallet. Will give it another try.
Glad it worked out David! We went back and bolded that in the post to make it more clear.
Had an account, tried to pay a car payment using masterpay and a MasterCard for 522.00, charged the full 2% fee. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
I would contact Plastiq customer service. They are usually pretty responsive via chat or email
i signed up for masterclass and my last 2 payments still has fees. didn’t work for me. disappointed customer.
Hey Cheryl, thanks for reading! Are the payment amounts $250 or under? Fees will still apply to any portion of the payment that’s over $250.
