In early 2017 I picked up the Fairmont Visa card before all the sign-up links ultimately died. I had two reasons for getting it: I’d run out of all the “good” options with Chase that weren’t subject to 5/24, and I hoped the card would be converted into a Chase product that would allow me to product change one of my cards to a Chase Freedom Unlimited.
The latter turned out to be spot on (SEE: Future of the Fairmont card revealed), so getting the card was worth it just for that. But my wife and I also enjoyed using the free nights and upgrade certificates from the card immensely (SEE: How we stayed at the Fairmont Banff Springs for 3 nights for $99.18).
Later, when the card was card was finally being converted to a Chase Sapphire Preferred, I spent enough on it to earn one more night at a Fairmont, which I used for a one-night at an iconic Bay Area hotel (SEE: Claremont Hotel Berkeley Review).
But wait, there’s more
There were a couple issues with our stay at the Claremont, including a room upgrade certificate that the hotel failed to apply. When I went to check the status of the certificate (I’d asked for a 6-month extension), I noticed something odd. My account still showed my Fairmont status as “Premier”, and there was whole new set of certificates! The expiration dates on everything are February of 2019, except for the room upgrade that should have been used.
Fast forward a week and I received a packet in the mail from Fairmont welcoming me as a Fairmont President’s Club Premier member. The mail even included two plastic luggage tags. You can imagine my surprise.
Now…with Fairmont President’s Club being rolled into Club Accor, I don’t know that future of my certificates. Maybe they’ll get pulled before I can use them. Maybe it’s a mistake. What I’m really curious about is if anyone else has received these and if they have been able to use them already.

I actually cancelled my card June of last year after using free nights when the fee came due…and I received the Cert’s and Premier status as well! I have a feeling anyone who was Premier is being kept on through the transition

I received a brand new elite package in the mail with 2 luggage tags.
It pretty much stated that they will be extending status and giving certs for an additional year as a show of good faith and continued loyalty to the brand.
If the member completes 2 stays by June or something, additional certs will be awarded. did not specify what kind of certs tho.
I received the Platinum package for the coming year. While tempting, I don’t plan to pay for 2 stays to get another free night in July.
As a result of the Living Social snafu a few years ago, I “was” one of the Lifetime Platinum members. Between the Plat annual free night, my wife and I signing up for the credit card a few times over the years, and free nights from spend on the cards, we were able to stay in Maui a few times, the Big Island once, and Banff and Lake Louise this past year. Many free onsite dinners and breakfasts, along with spa visits, topped off our Fairmont experiences.
Thanks for mentioning it. I got the packet in the mail with the luggage tags and ignored it. I just checked my account and whole new set of certificates is there. I didn’t use the card to get any other free nights, so just upgrades, 3rd night free and $25 dining/willow certs.

You could always use the 2x$25 certificates at any Fairmont for (food, drinks, spa) without staying overnight. Just give them your FPC number after you get the check, they will check the system to verify your certificates, then deduct it from your bill.
I agree this card is the gift that keeps giving. Not only did it allow me to end up with the sapphire card which I would not have been able to get approved for but now another free night just because they made dinner changes plus all the president club benefits extended one more year. All in all, this one card had given me 5 free fairmont night in some amazing hotels. It has definitely been once of my best travel hacking cards ever.
Reading your post while using our free nights at the Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui. Signed in early 2017 as well. My wife and I both hit the $6000 for the additional night. We stayed two nights at Banff Springs in December using suite upgrade and also used the other suite upgrade certificate for one night at Lake Louise. This week using our sign up 4 free nights here in Maui at the all suite Kea Lani. Upon check in we were told we could use our new certificates for dining or the spa. Fairmont hotels are great. Moving us to oceanfront today because of status being extended without use of certificate.
