United Airlines announced last week that it is adding eight new routes this summer from its hubs in Chicago, Denver, Houston, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York/Newark.

7 new routes with year-round service

Starting June 7, United will begin new daily service between six of its domestic hubs and eight destinations in CaliforniaOhioNorth DakotaSouth DakotaVirginia and Wisconsin. The new routes will be served by smaller planes

New summer service to Rapid City South Dakota

United also announced a new seasonal service between New York/Newark area and Rapid City, South Dakota. The new route, the only nonstop flight between the two cities, will operate once a week only on Saturdays beginning June 23 using Embraer E175 aircraft. The flight will depart New York/Newark at 10:00 a.m. and arrive in Rapid City at 12:05 p.m.

Operation Enhancement to begin at Chicago hub

United also announced that starting February, it will begin operation enhancement at O’Hare International Airport to shorten connection times and provide better access to more destinations for passengers connecting through its Chicago hub. This operation enhancement is already in place in United’s Houston hub.

The new routes are not yet loaded into United’s online system. It would be interested to see what award availability looks like and whether one-way coach award would cost just 8,000 miles instead of the regular 12,500 miles.
