As many longtime readers will know, I like checking things off lists and I like keeping track / statistics of most things in my life. I track my countries visited, counties visited, Interstate highways traveled, UNESCO World Heritage Sites visited among other things
So it’s probably no surprise that I also keep a detailed log of every flight I’ve ever taken. After researching which site was best to track flights, I went with OpenFlights.org, which is a pretty basic / barebones site but does the job. I have done my best to put in flights I took as a kid and I believe this is an up-to-date list
One thing I noticed on my recent trip to Cuzco / Machu Picchu was that I had made it halfway to the moon!

And actually, in the time it’s taken me to get around to writing this post, I’ve flown to Sweden and back which is another 9000 miles. In fact, among a few other interesting statistics
- You can see my shortest flight – the 11 mile helicopter ride over the Mediterranean
- Longest flight was Emirates First Class from Dubai to New York – aka shower on the plane!
- My 2 most recent trips were my northernmost (to Arlanda Airport in Stockholm Sweden) and southernmost (to Cuzco Peru)
- 56 different airports (SEE ALSO: Meet the man who’s been to airports starting with all 26 letters). Personally, I’m missing G, J, O, Q, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z
So I’m quite sure that my travels are not the most impressive out there – so I’m interested in hearing your travels.
Do you use something to track your flights? If so, what are some interesting travel stats you have? Leave a note on our Facebook group or in the comments!

I’m confused. 132,000 miles in what time? Surely you’ve flown way more than that in your life?
Yes – those are lifetime stats.

(Admittedly, Dan, I’m older than you are.)
It’s only been in the past few years that I’ve started traveling (by air) more. I’m trying to catch up!
Keep in mind, Dan, that I’m 63 and that I have worked in California for my life, only RARELY traveling by plane for work and never then, remaining within the state save on three occasions (SEA, BOS, and LGA).
So, in other words, while my 1.6x “trips to the moon” might sound impressive (well, it impresses me; it’s the only way *I’ll* ever get into space!), it’s nothing compared to people who regularly fly as a part of their jobs.
My flight memory says 5.954x to the moon. I’m 38 and fly 200,000 to 300,000 miles a year. 🙂
