As part of my recent trip to Stockholm Sweden, I spent 2 nights at the Clarion Hotel Sign hotel (read hotel reviews – check prices). The Clarion Hotel Sign hotel opened in 2008 and is Stockholm’s largest hotel. While it ended up being a giant hassle trying to book this hotel on points, we had a great stay – here is my Clarion Hotel Sign review.
Clarion Hotel Sign location and price
The Clarion Hotel Sign is located at Östra Järnvägsgatan 35, Stockholm, near the Norra Bantorget park and only a few blocks away from Stockholm Central Station. No matter how you get from Arlanda Airport to the Stockholm City Center – the Clarion Hotel Sign should only be a 5-10 minute walk away at most.

I typically book on points, and the Clarion Hotel Sign is a steal at only 10,000 Choice points / night. You can always buy 10,000 points for $110, and even that is lower than the cash price on most nights I checked. Choice also runs periodic promotions – the most recent one was for 40% more points, which would mean that 10,000 points would be about ~$80. During this year’s Daily Getaways deal back in the Spring, you could get Choice points as low as 0.4 cents per point, meaning a stay at the Clarion Hotel Sign hotel would cost you only $40 / night!
Clarion Hotel Sign review – rooms
As a Nordic Choice Platinum (top tier) member, I am supposed to receive a one level complimentary upgrade. I can’t say with 100% certainty, but I believe I was given an “upgrade”, an all too common hotel front desk trick. It was no big deal as it was just my son and I and for only 2 nights, but I find it hard to believe that this was not your basic room. Maybe I’m wrong – it’s just irritating when companies don’t stick to their promises.
Like many hotel rooms in Europe, the beds were actually 2 single beds pushed together, where there is no top sheet but instead individual comforters. Traveling with my son this was no problem. And one huge plus was that the pillows in the Clarion Hotel Sign were FANTASTIC! I hate how most hotel pillows just seem to squish down the moment your head hits the pillow.
The bathroom was fairly standard, though one thing to point out was that the glass door above served as both a door between the bedroom and bathroom as well as between the toilet (to the left of the pic) and the rest of the bathroom. Depending on who you are sharing a room with, this could be an issue for you.
Clarion Hotel Sign amenities
There is a spa and swimming pool at the Clarion Hotel Sign hotel, on the 8th floor, but the swimming pool is only available if you purchase access to the spa (SEK245) aka ripoff. Plus kids are only allowed to be in the pool before 1pm, which meant we did not use the swimming pool during our stay here.
They do have a gym / fitness center, which I also did not use. I did not see a business center, though it’s listed on the hotel website, so I assume it’s somewhere around there 🙂
One amenity that I found interesting there was a DJ thing complete with beatboxing dials in (only) one of the elevators – we loved when that elevator came.
Another thing to mention is that they did not have any power adapters. I had brought one with me, but the US plug only took a 2 prong outlet and my laptop needed a 3 prong / grounded one, so I couldn’t use it. The staff said that they used to have them but people kept stealing them and they hadn’t ordered more.
Food / Dining / Breakfast at the Clarion Hotel Sign hotel
The breakfast buffet at the Clarion Hotel Sign was quite large, and there were a variety of different styles of foods – Swedish, American and others (there seemed to be a lot of British and Spanish travelers as well).
There is a large seating area, and there is also an omelet bar that was a bit hard to find – tucked back in the back corner. One fun thing that my son enjoyed was this automatic juice / water dispenser.
As part of being a Nordic Choice Platinum (top tier) member, I was given a voucher to be used in the bar / restaurant for SEK125 (~USD$15) for each day of my stay. As someone who doesn’t drink alcohol, I was not sure what to get. Bar menu is pictured below, but then I also found that there was a restaurant where you could use the vouchers. On my 2nd night there, I thought that I would use both my vouchers and SEK250 off inflated restaurant prices would come out fairly reasonable.
My son asked for “chicken nuggets and french fries”, which they made by dumping the chicken (as well as requested cucumbers) from a caesar salad on top of a mound of fries. I had a hamburger. Tragically, when I went to pay, the server only THEN told me that the vouchers had to be used on the days indicated and could not be combined. So only a SEK125 discount off of overpriced hotel restaurant food brought it down to just regularly overpriced food 🙂

Stayed there last September, loved it, much better than the Hilton there, but that says I had an upgraded room, only difference seemed to be I had a table where your orange chair was.
That said, if you’re still there and haven’t done MAX Burger, you gotta take your kid there, I hate fast food, yet LOVE Max.

In other words you DIDN’T bring one with you and were always planning on borrowing from the hotel. Unless your laptop plug grew an extra prong on the flight.
I brought one with me, but it was only when I GOT to Sweden that I realized it didn’t have a 3 prong US female outlet – does that make it more clear?
It might have been an upgrade – a lot of European hotels just create a higher room category by adding a coffee maker, bathrobe, etc.
Locals consider it an upgrade from a “broom closet” to a “broom closet with bathrobe”!

Yes – it’s way in the back corner not really near any of the other breakfast items. They have 3 different types of prepared omelets that are just ready to take (veggie, sausage and ham and one other type), or you can have them prepare a fresh one for you
Stayed there in July. Enough room for family of four, with rolling beds, which our kids loved. Excellent breakfast, comfortable pillow and great location. Bathroom has poor glass divider design, where shower water will spread out all over the place. Roof lounge and pool are expensive and mostly for adults.

My kids also loved the elevators at this hotel. We had 3 family rooms at the same price of 10,000 Choice points, and they were quite nice. Extra space and great views!
Dan- assuming you booked via the U.S. Choice Hotels website with your Choice Privileges (U.S.) reward points, how did you inform the property that you had Nordic Choice Platinum status? Because I assume that only your U.S. Choice Privileges member number would’ve been included in your reservation? Thanks in advance.
I believe I emailed them? Or maybe included it in my reservation? You’re possibly right though that it didn’t come through. I asked if they had it when I checked in but maybe it was just the US Choice one
