Club Carlson has announced the details of their Q1 2015 promotion, which is called Extend your Stay
It’s a pretty good promotion, as these types of promotions go, but not a OH MY GOSH mattress run with several accounts.
Club Carlson Q1 2015 promo details
The Extend Your Stay promotion is fairly simple
- For each 2 night stay at a Club Carlson hotel, you earn an additional 15,000 points
- For each 3 night stay at a Club Carlson hotel, you earn an additional 30,000 points
Some fine print
Promotion is valid for Eligible Stays between January 12, 2015 and March 29, 2015. Stays or nights paid for by redeeming Gold Points or by using Points + Cash are not eligible for this Promotion. Members only need to register once, but registration must be received before checkout of the first Eligible Stay to qualify.
An extra 10,000 points?
Miles to Memories is reporting that some members have received a targeted email for an ADDITIONAL 10,000 miles on their first 2 night or longer stay, which would mean that a 3 night stay would net 40,000 extra points!
Double the values of your miles with the Club Carlson credit card
If you have the Club Carlson credit card (not an affiliate link), which I recommend, you get your last night free on all award redemptions. So if you stay in 2 night increments, you are essentially doubling the value of your miles.
Your 30,000 points would get you 2 nights at a Level 3 hotel (28,000 points per night), since your 2nd night would be free.
Combining with purchase bonuses
Holders of the Club Carlson credit card ALSO receive Gold status, which gives a 35% bonus on earning miles, and if you pay with your Club Carlson card you earn 10x points more. Everyone already is earning 20x points on stays at Club Carlson hotels, so this can generate quite a bit of points. Let’s take a look at a real-life example.
I don’t mean to just turn this into a Miles to Memories linkfest, but he had ANOTHER great post on this topic regarding how to search across multiple dates to find the cheapest rate. Using that trick to see how the Club Carlson Q1 2015 promo might work in my local area of Cincinnati, OH
In my case, the rate is $79 every day, which turns out to be $87.93 with taxes, or $263.79 for a 3 night stay.
- 20x points would be 5280 base points
- Paying with your Club Carlson credit card earns another 2640 points
- The 35% Gold Member bonus is another 1848 points
- And 30,000 points from the Extend your Stay promotion
That’s a total of 39,768 points on spend of $263.79, or a cost per point of $0.66. That’s a good price but not a great price. Club Carlson has run promotions previously where you could buy points as low as $0.40 / points. My recommendation is that it may be worth it if you have planned upcoming (paid) stays, but probably not mattress-run worthy unless you’re able to find a really cheap hotel.

I’ve convinced my husband, who has Elite status with Marriott, to switch to Club Carlson for the promotion through March. We anticipate getting the CC Credit card to maximize the BOGO feature for a future trip. Here’s my question. He has a 2 night stay in Seattle this week. He has 2 rooms reserved. So, will he earn 15k points per room for 2 night stay, in addition to the 20 points/$ spend? Or just the 15k points? We status matched him to CC silver from his Marriott status and trying to figure this all out. Thanks for always being so patient when answering my many stupid questions 🙂
