I know I just said this yesterday when I wrote about $200 roundtrip fares to the US Virgin Islands, but I really don’t always post about fare deals, but sometimes there are good ones that catch my eye for whatever reason. And since we don’t get a ton of really good fare deals out of the midwest (besides Chicago), I thought I’d share this one.
Cleveland to Los Angeles for $50 one-way or $99 roundtrip
There are $50 one-way fares out of Cleveland going to Los Angeles on United. Here is one example of 2 of them combined for a $99 roundtrip
These fares look to be competing with Spirit and mostly Frontier and are good for various dates in August and September
Other deals out of Cleveland
A couple of other pretty good fares out of Cleveland
- to Las Vegas for $59 one way or $118 roundtrip
- Phoenix for $87 one way or $174 roundtrip
- San Francisco $100 one way or $199 roundtrip
These work the other way around as well, originating out west and flying to Cleveland
Good fares out of other cities
A few other deals I saw
- CVG – SFO for $90 one way or $179 roundtrip
- CVG – LAX for $122 one way or $238 roundtrip
- ORD – LAX or DEN for $50 one way or $99 roundtrip
- ORD – SFO for $99 one way or $199 roundtrip
- ORD – PHX for $79 one way
Finding the cheap flights and where to credit
I usually use Google Flights to find these types of things. Then you can try booking with Momondo, Priceline, Orbitz or the OTA of your choice (affiliate links).
I would not credit these fares to United unless you’re going for status – you’ll only get a multiple (5x without status) of the price paid, so around 500 United miles for a roundtrip. If you credit to another Star Alliance partner like Air Canada, Singapore etc you should get around 4000 miles for a roundtrip (EDIT: See comments – should be 2000 miles on partners)
Note that these ARE the new United Basic Economy fares which means it does not include a carryon or seat assignment
Good luck and happy booking

Are you sure you’ll get ~4000 miles? I am thinking about taking advantage of this but every site I use is telling me that I’ll end up with 1000 and some change for SA alliance partners. Where are you finding this info? Could you help me?
These are N class fares. According to wheretocredit.com, that should earn 50% (so 2000 miles) on Air Canada, COPA and a few other places (so we were both wrong 😀 )

Do you think when the flights are this low, that you should save your points and just pay cash?
Absolutely pay cash or at the very least use cash points like Arrival, TYP or Chase UR portal – you definitely would not want to use AA miles for an award flight when prices are this low
