With 2014 coming to a close, we also are coming up on the 1 year anniversary of Points With a Crew, which started in January of this year.  It’s been a great year and I could not be more excited about the future as we look into 2015 and beyond.

Looking back at the top posts of 2014, I thought I’d run a short series of the top posts of 2014 at Points With a Crew.  These more or less are the most visited posts by blog visitors in 2014, and are pretty highly correlated with a list of my most popular posts.  Things are slightly skewed by the posts that ran in the week in September that I was featured on the main page of Boarding Area, where I got a ton more traffic.

So, without further ado, here are posts #16-20 in the Top PWaC Posts of 2014:sears-shop-your-way-expire

#20My experience with 19x miles reselling at Sears.  Back in August, the Southwest shopping portal ran a promotion for 9x miles at Sears.  By double dipping and going through the portal twice by buying gift cards, I was able to get over 20,000 miles for purchases of about $1000, which I then resold (at a slight loss).  Recently United upped the ante by running a promotion that allowed you to get up to 29x miles.  I took part in that deal too, though the reselling is still ongoing, so you’ll have to wait for 2015 to see how that turned out!! (SEE ALSO: Earning miles through shopping portals)

#19 – We always complain about the taxes and fees that British Airways charges when you fly on BA itself, but there is one program that British Airways has that allows you to pay a fixed price for any taxes, fees and surcharges – it’s called British Airways Reward Flight Saver.  Taxes and fees are a flat $27.50 one way no matter where you go, as long as it’s under 2000 miles. Personally I’d rather use my Avios to take short domestic flights for 4500 Avios, like I did when I went from CVG-DCA to attend Family Travel for Real Life.

#18 – Don’t poop where you eat – a cautionary tale. Perhaps only popular due to its scatological title, this was an essay urging you not to mix your crazy miles and points world with your real world.  Don’t deposit tons of money orders in your personal bank account, avoid trying to pay yourself with the debit card you use to pay your water bill, etc.  Because nothing is going to rock your world like Chase (or Citi, or Barclays) all of a sudden putting a freeze on all your accounts, leaving you wonder how you’re going to pay your mortgage this month

Scissors aren’t doing much here!!

#17 – Ever wonder how to destroy a metal credit card?  Most people cut up their credit cards with scissors once they’re done with them, but that doesn’t work so well with a metal card (see my feeble attempts on my Sapphire card to the right!)  I actually ended up just taking some tin snips to it which worked fine, but there are a couple of other things that some people have tried

#16 – 4 sweet spots on Singapore’s Amazing award chart.  Singapore Airlines is a great airline not only for their amazing Suites Class redemptions (SEE ALSO: The 9 errr 12 flights that have Singapore Suites Class), but for regular US domestic travel.  There are 4 redemptions that are extra great and better than the United Airlines alternatives.  I’d tell you what they were but… well… you’ll just have to read the article 🙂

There you have it!  Tune in next time for Points With a Crew Top 20 of 2014 #11-15!
