Shopping Portal bonuses are a great way to get some easy miles. All of the major hotels and airlines (as well as Chase) have them. The basic idea is that before making any online purchases, you go through the shopping portal of your choice, and then earn extra points on your purchase.
I had a great experience a few weeks ago where I got 19x on the Southwest Shopping Portal, racking up nearly 22,000 miles for very little out of pocket. That was even before I realized that shopping portal points pay out on the pre-SWYR price at Sears.
Currently (through October 16th), American is offering a bonus on spend done through their portal.
- Spend $100, earn 500 bonus miles
- Spend $300, earn 1000 bonus miles
- Spend $500, earn 2000 bonus miles
If you spend the full amount, it’s like you’re earning an additional 4x on your spend (above and beyond the regular portal bonus and the miles / points that you’ll get from whatever credit card you use). Oddly enough, you earn more per dollar spent (5x) if you only spend $100.
You don’t have to use an AAdvantage credit card – any card will do.
This promotion ends October 16th.
