REPOSTING as the deadline is 4/30 – if you hadn’t heard about this or meant to do it and forgot, you have till 4/30 (Sunday)

Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) just launched a new promotion for buying or gifting Starpoints at up to 30% off between March 1st and April 30th, 2017. You can access the complete details hereInvalid request error occurred.

Buy or Gift SPG points up to 30% off

BuySPG2

SPG points usually cost 3.5 cents per point. If you purchase the maximum of 30,000 points, it normally would cost $1,050. With this promotion, you will save 30% and pay $735 instead. That is equivalent to 2.45 cents per SPG point.

You can purchase or receive as gift up to 30,000 SPG points per calendar year. The account to receive the points must be opened for at least 14 days.

And why you might want to consider participating

Last year SPG ran a targeted promotion where some lucky members got up to 50% discounts on purchased SPG points. Occasionally they ran a 35% off promotion, but 30% seems to be more common. And this new promotion is open to everyone.

Whether it is a good deal depends on if you have a need for SPG points. With SPG and Marriott 2017 category changes taking effect next Tuesday March 7, 2017, you might be considering locking into some of the hotels that are moving up in category. The timing of this promotion will be perfect if you are short on either SPG or Marriott points, as SPG points can be converted to Marriott points at 1:3 ratio. This is also an opportunity to purchase Marriott Rewards points cheaply and use them towards Travel Packages. You can still convert Marriott points for the Southwest Companion Pass before March 31!
