There’s a deal going on right now through July 31st where you can earn 1000 miles for referring a friend to airberlin’s Topbonus frequent flyer program
As I read the terms and conditions, you normally get 500 points for referring friends, but through July 31st, airberlin will double your referral bonus after the first one, up to a limit of 10 referrals. So that is a grand total of 9500 points
What can you do with airberlin miles?
You can find the airberlin award chart here
In and of itself, it’s nothing too special. There are a few things worth pointing out
- They have “Topdeals” which are kind of an airline version of IHG Pointbreaks – specific flights (usually intra-Europe) are as low as 3000 miles.
- If you fly between the US and Europe on airberlin itself (instead of a partner), it’s only 50,000 miles roundtrip
- You can book a “companion ticket” for half off miles. So TWO roundtrip tickets from the US to Europe on airberlin would only be 75,000 topbonus miles (60,000 Starwood miles)
Travel is Free has a good article – best uses of AirBerlin miles.
Check it out – all your referrals need to do is have an email address and sign up for the topbonus newsletter, which is a pretty low barrier to entry IMO! If you have not signed up for airberlin yet, my referral link is here.

Oh, wait, sorry — the 500 (or 1,000) miles is what you get when a referred person signs up … not what YOU get for signing up, correct?
That’s right – but I believe the referred person also gets 500 for signing up and 500 for opting in to emails
I didn’t get either 🙁 Just 300 miles for some reason.
