If you haven’t book your family’s summer vacation, now is the time. I previously wrote about up to 9 Delta awards to Hawaii this summer and how you can book the roundtrip through Korean Air using 25,000 miles. But what if you want to go farther than Hawaii? Well, you are in luck. Delta awards to Asia Pacific are wide open this summer, with as many as 9 seats available!
 Nonstop Delta flights to Asia Pacific
Delta flies to Sydney Australia and seven cities in three Asian countries, including China, Japan and South Korean. Nonstop services are from five Delta hubs – Atlanta (ATL), Detroit (DTW), Los Angeles (LAX), Minneapolis (MSP), and Seattle (SEA). Additionally, Delta also flies to Tokyo Narita airport from Honolulu (HNL) and Portland Oregon (PDX).
From Tokyo Narita airport, Delta also operates nonstop service to Guam, Koror, Manila, Saipan, Shanghai and Singapore.

Up to 9 Delta awards to Asia Pacific during summer!
You can search award seats on Delta website. Â Most coach awards will cost from 35,000 to 45,000 per person each way. As an example, I searched for a family of five on Delta’s nonstop service from Los Angeles to Tokyo. While availability in June was not good, seats were wide open in July.
A few points to keep in mind during your search:
- You can search only up to 9 seats in one reservation;
- Naturally, availability is better if you need less than 9 seats;
- Use “5 week” calendar view to widen your search dates;
- Limit your search to “Delta only” if you do not want to fly Delta partners;
- Search availability on nonstop routes first (limit your search to “nonstop” flights before choosing “all flights”)
- Availability might still be available from cities other than Delta hubs.
To book the award, you will use Delta Skymile. Luckily, Delta Skymile are easy to get thanks to six different Delta Amex cards. Delta is also a transfer partner with Amex Membership Rewards and Starwood.
Not living near cities with nonstop Delta flights to Asia Pacific?
Don’t give up if you don’t live near any of the cities that Delta flies nonstop to Asia Pacific! Cheap Delta awards might still exist. Just put in your home airport and see what you can find. As an example, I searched Orlando to Tokyo in July, availability is also wide open!
Keep in mind that you can always use other alternatives (such as Southwest Companion pass, or other miles, or buy a cash ticket) to get you to the departure city that you need.
Reaching beyond Delta’s Asia Pacific Destinations
Once you land in Asia or Australia, it is easy to reach destinations beyond the eight major cities that Delta serves nonstop. This is where British Airway’s distance award chart shines! You can redeem British Airway avios for as little as 4,500 one-way on any of the four Oneworld partner airlines including Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines and Qantas.
Anyone plan to burn some Skymile and take the whole family on Delta awards to Asia Pacific?

for the same price, I would rather fly Asian airlines than endure Delta crapy inflight service and outdated seats.
Yes the service and the hard product on Asian airlines are better than most U.S. domestic airlines. But you don’t often find as many as 9 award seats on Asian airlines as you would on Delta. If you need 1 or 2 seats, your choices are obviously a lot better than when you need 6-9 seats. I fly Delta transcontinental all the time and I found their service and seats way better than United and AA.
Lots of Y space but not too much J. Who’d want to I’d much rather pay 80k one way in J than 40k for Y.
Yes most space is in coach. When you have a family of 4 or 5, or even more, most of the time coach is all you can afford, even if it is 16 hours! Business class would be nice but to most family it is a dream.
