Using points at an all-inclusive resort can be a pretty good way to maximize your points. If you look at something like the Holiday Inn Resort® Montego Bay, a 1 night stay for 4 people costs $202, or 17,500 points
That’s 1.15 cents per point, which is a pretty good redemption for an IHG point. If you look back at the Daily Getaways from two weeks ago, you could buy 75,000 points (enough for 4 nights) for $443, compared to paying $808! You can actually get it a bit cheaper as you can manufacture IHG points as low as 0.6 cents per point, which would count those 75,000 points for as low as $420.
Good luck out there and happy booking!

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Los Canoe in June during the same promotion. The food was terrible, the drinks watered down, and the beach is unswimable. The staff was very good though. I would say it’s a meh deal at 17.5k.
Thanks for the post Dan, as I’d somehow missed it.
I’ve stayed at HI Montego Bay before, when it was still “Sunspree” — a fine place, with lots of repeat loyal visitors. (and plat members get treated very well there) Wasn’t quite as “super” as Hyatt Zilara/Ziva pairing, but still quite enjoyable, including the entertainment, food, and nice, if crowded beach…. These fall time slots should be better…. if weather holds. Only prob. with Jamaica these days is every escalating taxes on the flights…. (grrrr)
Went to Aruba last fall…. the HI there is aging, and we found ourselves first two nights in a back room (as in away from the ocean) — and were treated to 12 hours a day of horrendous jackhammer action from nearby restaurant (which actually stayed open amid the dust)….. but they did move us to one of the few ocean-front rooms – very nice. Aruba waters are super placid — sooo very nice. Alas, you get a great view of two surreal sights…. massive drilling ships just off the coast….
Am tempted to try Los Cabos this year — yet heard about the beach/surf problems there too. Anybody been there recently?
Two quick footnotes:
1. If anything interests folks, I’d say book it now — don’t wait til Aug. 28th. (last year several of the properties, including Aruba, dropped off availability well before the booking dealine)
2. re. the obvious — the season & the reason for the discounts….. make travel arrangements that you can cancel. (or insure)…. Southwest again comes to the head of the class.
Booked us to Montego Bay the first day they were bookable at 17,500. Can’t wait to get there!
Awesome! Sounds like a great time!
The Intercontinental Cozumel is coming up as 40,000 points per not rather than 20,000.
