Most airline fare sales are mostly marketing. The prices offered aren’t anything out of the ordinary; you can often find the same prices before or after the sale is over, and sometimes the fare sale doesn’t provide much of a discount or incentive to book.
But this recently announced fare sale from Southwest is somewhat different and is definitely worth checking out.
Southwest Week Of Wow Fare Sale – 50% Off!
Southwest has just announced a new “Week of Wow” Fare sale, with 50% off most travel
Here are the terms and conditions of this Southwest 50% off fare sale:
- Use promo code WOW50 by 9/28/23 (so book before this Thursday)
- You must travel between 10/24/23-3/6/24
- The 50% discount applies to the base fare, and not to taxes and fees. This makes it slightly less than actually 50% off, but it’s still a good deal
- The promotion applies to Wanna Get Away and Wanna Get Away Plus fares as well as using points
There are blackout dates
- Continental U.S. travel blacked out 11/17-11/22, 11/25-11/27, 12/21-12/23, 12/26-12/30, 1/1-1/2, 1/6-1/7, 2/16, and 2/19.
- SNA (Orange County) blacked out 10/24-12/31, 1/1-1/2, 1/6-1/7, 2/16 and 2/19.
- Travel to international destinations, Hawaii and Puerto Rico blacked out 11/17-11/19, 12/15-1/8, 1/11-1/13 and 2/15-2/18.
- Travel from international destinations, Hawaii and Puerto Rico blacked out 11/24-11/27, 12/15-1/8, 1/15-1/16, and 2/23-2/27.
Southwest 50% Off Fare Examples
I should mention that it isn’t QUITE 50% off, since it’s only 50% off of the base fare amount, and you still have to pay 100% of the taxes and fees. Still, it represents a pretty good savings amount over the regular prices. Here is one example of a fare:
As you can see, the WOW50 promo code is working on all types of fares. As I mentioned earlier, it also works on reservations booked with Southwest Rapid Rewards points.

These might not help you for this particular sale (since you won’t get the points in time), but they might be able to help you get a good stash of points to more easily take advantage of the NEXT Southwest fare sale
Southwest Change and Cancellation Policy
Remember that Southwest has one of the best change and cancellation policies of any airline. There are no change or cancellation fees, so you can cancel at any time. The other side of that is that if you have any existing flights during the fare sale period, you can change with no fees. Given the 50% off fare sale, any flight you may have previously booked is likely to be at a lower cost right now.

(SEE ALSO: Southwest just PAID me to take the same flight!)
So you can change your flight and possibly save some money if your fares are lower now.

Not really amazing. Have 6 flights on SW coming up over the next 6 months, non of them over the holidays. not one of them qualified for the discount.
Good to recycle articles but check the dates under cancellation policy. You’re still in 2021.
2667 points ATL/LGA. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Same for the return flight. This is January.
I see under 6000 point flights LGA/LAS in March or $102.
This is late 2023 early 2024 travel.
