Timeshare pitches
I’ve actually never been on a timeshare pitch before, from Hyatt or anyone else. My parents and aunts and uncles all have timeshare condos that they’ve used for an extended family reunion every other year for the past 20 years or so, and while I’ve attended, I’ve never had to attend a timeshare pitch. Because the unit’s in my dad’s name, when they call I just tell them he’s not here 🙂
So while I feel pretty confident I can withstand the timeshare salespeople, I was wondering if anyone else had done something like this? I see some reviews over on Flyertalk for this as well as a couple of the other Hyatt timeshare properties (one in Sedona, one in Maui) but curious if anyone else had done this before or had thoughts?

You’ll also have to be 25+, which sounds like the biggest fine print to me 🙁
Well thankfully that’s not a problem for me 🙂
Thank God!
I wouldn’t do it. We did a time share presentation once in Cabo San Lucas. It was a long time ago (over 10 years). They offered $100 (or something like that) towards dinner. We were still in grad school so it seemed with it. It is NOT! It is high pressure and annoying. We were never ever going to buy regardless of the sales pressure, but they are very good at keeping you from leaving. Don’t do it!
I would totally do it if it were a place I was hoping to go anyway. We thought about trying the one in Sedona but stayed in Scottsdale instead.
We’ve done timeshare presentations in Orlando, Hawaii, and the Outer Banks before and we still don’t own a timeshare. Points and miles are a much better game.
We’ve done a couple to get some “perks”. The last one we did was in Puerto Vallarta. They hit us up unexpectedly after check in and said it would only be 90 minutes. After 90 minutes we told her that her time was up. She hadn’t even gotten to the pricing yet, but we held firm and we were given our “gifts” and left. We go into it preparing not to buy. My parents own one and offered to sell it to me for $1. When I did the math, after all the fees I still spend less doing the miles and points and paid stays. Not worth it in my book, so I didn’t buy it, but I would totally do another one for a cheap stay with bonus points if it were an area I was looking to go to.
Yes for Maui or Sedona – for Key West no way.
Whenever i go to Las Vegas, there are people all over the place with horrid timeshare stories. Basically, the presentations are much longer and higher pressure than they lead you to believe.
Furthermore, the timeshare companies tell one HUGE lie. They tell you it is an investment. Beforehand, just look around at the prices people are getting when they sell their timeshares.
I’ve been to that Key West facility. You do not want to spend 3 nights there – certainly not for $425. It is almost 4 miles from the historic district, behind the airport and not near other resorts. And, although next to the ocean, there is no beach here. This line: “Close proximity to shopping and nightlife of Mallory Square & Duval Street” is laughable, consider the distance. If you go into town, you have to contend with the terrible parking issue, or take their periodic shuttle.
We did a timeshare presentation there a few years ago for 30,000 Hyatt points. We got the offer when we checked into the Hyatt Key West, a really nice place. I figured this was equivalent to a CC offer and I spend more than 90 minutes meeting those challenges.
The fact that they are still trying to sell those units years later is also telling. It’s not like this site had potention for expansion. They just aren’t able to sell at this location.
I wish I can do these. 21 currently, almost 22. I guess they try to get young people who have built up some wealth to try and sucker them in. I’m pretty frugal unless I’m getting a good deal, and I won’t ever think I’m getting a good deal with a timeshare….so trips like these are easy for me (I think). Can’t wait until I get targeted for these though.
My husband and I would go to a Hyatt timeshare presentation in a heartbeat if it was a place we were interested in visiting. Hyatt is a class act and there is very low pressure. We have been to multiple Hyatt presentations and they have always been respectful and have honored the time limit. Just don’t keep asking questions, as that can extend your time. I would not go to many other companies. presentations We are pretty picky about our time. We stayed at this condo with another couple and had a great trip. The resort itself is quite spacious and nice. Yes the beach is a walk or bike ride away probably 3/4 of a mile but you are on a bike path that goes into town. You can always grab a taxi to go downtown. It’s 4 miles away so not very expensive. We have driven on past trips, a hassle but doable and have rented bikes. We enjoy Key West and the Keys in general. So much to do.
I’m 62 and retired 3 years. My wife and I have taken the rewards over the past 35 years from 20 plus timeshare presentations always refusing to buy. 2 years ago we bought a resale week in Hyatt Sedona . Last year we bought a second resale week in Hyatt Beach house which is also in Key West. Resale is 40 to 70% less in purchase cost. We traded some points to stay in a 2 bedroom at Wyndward Point last winter. It is a nice to have a full kitchen and a condo especially with a family. We rented bicycles which were delivered right to our condo. Biking was a great way to get around to the downtown 4 miles and to the beach 1 mile away. The Keys are all beautiful if you rent a car and drive after flying in to Fort Lauderdale Southwest Companion pass as we did. We used points at Hyatt Place in Marathon on the way there. If you want to skip the drive and just fly into Key West the airport is next door. We might just not rent a car next time and just use bikes. I would say for a 2 bedroom condo it’s well worth the price and the presentation. Hyatt is not high pressure. We’ve dealt with high pressure from lesser timeshare companies. I think has a hotel reputation they want to protect. Resale timeshare, for me with the flexibility from retirement, works well with free airline travel and hotel points. Many of the people who buy timeshare and regret it find they are unable to afford to travel year after year because they don’t know how to get free airfare. The price to buy from the developer is impossible to make numbers work . Resale is the only way .
Right – I know enough about timeshares to know never to buy from a developer
There are only 2 genders and everyone knows it.
