(Editor’s Note: This New York City mistakes post was written by my 10 year old daughter. One of the joys of traveling with a homeschooler is that you get to “make them” write posts and call it “school”. I’m sure that she would enjoy constructive feedback on the post)
A little while ago my dad took me to NYC for my birthday. I’ve written about the 5 awesome things to do in New York City that we did – but some things went wrong.
New York City mistake #1: Getting lost in Central Park
One of the places we visited was Central park. Central Park is a famous park in New York. Central park is really big so it’s easy to get lost. And that’s exactly what we did! We had to walk through the huge park until I thought my feet were going to fall off! (ED: We didn’t get THAT lost :-D)
NYC mistake #2 – Can’t find UN headquarters
Another place we went to was the United Nations Building. The United Nations Building is really tall and blue. While walking there we saw a lot of houses with country flags on them. One of our New York City mistakes is that we also got lost on the way there. (Turns out it’s on 42nd street, NOT 47th street.)

When we finally got there it was closed so we had to come back there the next day.
NYC Mistakes #3 and 4 – no phone charger or umbrella!
My dad also lost his phone charger so the battery on his phone went dead. Then we couldn’t take any more pictures of all the beautiful sights in New York City. The worst part of that New York City mistake was that he still couldn’t find his phone charger for the rest of the trip.
Another problem we had was that it rained several times while we were in New York, and my dad only brought one umbrella. His umbrella was tiny, and probably only meant for one person! As a result to that we had to borrow an umbrella from the hotel.

Even though my dad made some annoying mistakes, my time in New York was fantastic! So if you ever go to New York City, try not to make the many New York city mistakes that we did.

Funny you post this after your writer solicitation. How much did she get paid for that blog post? 🙂
LOL – I actually thought about that. I think I will give her a little “bonus” in her allowance this week.
I carry my Anker battery and phone cable at all times now. After a NYC trip few years back where my phone went dead in Central Park. Nice pics!
Brava!! Very well done. =) I think next time *you should carry the map and double check your dad’s packing list!
Just don’t forget to say something nice to your dad, too. Even we parents need encouragement sometimes! I have just informed my home-schooled son and daughter that they will need to write blog posts titled, “4 Awesome Things my Mom Did on Our Trip.” =D
Ah, yes.
The umbrella dilemna in NYC.
I know it well. LOL
I don’t know how you resolved not having photos of some really cool places…but next time, why not buy a few postcards? You can write yourself a memory note on the back; an inexpensive souvenir that weighs almost nothing in a suitcase!
P.S. I’m not going to call these mishaps “mistakes.” I’m going to call it your “NYC Adventures!” 🙂
What a fabulously well-written post, Kennedy and a fantastic time with your dad, too!
Kennedy, An excellent write-up on your special trip. Well done… and lovely photos as well!!!
You should do what we did at Disneyland last year, take those credit card size battery packs and a small cable and recharge during the day, they weigh nothing and the 4 of them kept us going till midnight. Great little blog post!
That’s what I had (portable phone charger) but somewhere in NYC I lost it
Luckily in NYC you can buy anything. There are probably several nice guys in Times Square who would be happy to sell you a charger AND and umbrella, for a special price.
