New Starwood promotion out! Through June 15th, 2018, earn 250 bonus Starpoints on every stay that you use mobile check-in.
This isn’t the first time Starwood has offered a mobile-check in promotion, and they seem to really encourage people to use it when able. I think mobile check-in does 3 things:
- Starwood gets to see how many people actually use the app. With the data they’re undoubtedly collecting from the mobile check-in, Starwood will be able to track things like actual arrival time and which hotels it’s used at. These kinds of metrics will help Marriott/SPG determine where to expand their keyless options.
- You can only use mobile check-in when you book direct with SPG. By promoting the app, they’re rewarding loyal folks for booking with SPG, and avoiding paying booking fees to travel agents and OTAs.
- The hotel cuts down on front desk time for guests. Plenty of guests will be happy grab their key and go, or to walk straight up to a room. This keeps the lobby clean and organized, while eventually paving the way for reduced lobby function, or even robot lobbies… (DUN DUN DUUUUUUN!!)
Robot overlords or no, download the app if you have some upcoming SPG stays. If you booked the stay on Starwood’s site, it should be easy to find and check in on the app at eligible hotels. The app will also push a notification a day or two prior to your stay, as a friendly reminder. Points will be posted a few weeks after the end of the promotion, June 15th.
