I came across a video the other day of 2 guys, Matt and Thomas from Seek Discomfort, who stayed in Singapore’s Changi Airport for 4 days. According to the video, they entered the airport with a boarding pass to a flight they did not intend to take. When they “missed” their flight, they instead stayed in what is listed as the world’s best airport for 4 days. They took advantage of the airport hotel, swimming pool, restaurants, movie theater and more.
At one point in the middle of the night, they were awoken by 2 police officers doing a security check. Luckily for them, by that point, they had already purchased a flight out of Singapore, and although they didn’t yet have their boarding pass, it was close enough to their departure time that they did not get arrested.
Disclaimer: Do not try this at home. Well I guess you can’t actually try this at HOME, unless your home is Changi Airport. But do not try to recreate this. 48 hours is the max that you’re allowed in Changi Airport, and Singapore is… not known for being lenient on lawbreakers.
Still, for me at least, it was an amusing and entertaining video
What’s the longest you’ve stayed in an airport?

Big fan of Yes Theory, I’m glad to see they’re getting some exposure in this corner of the Interwebs. I know it wasn’t that long ago, but I still don’t think they could pull this off today – they’d probably get banned from the airport, if not the whole country.
This makes me wonder if one could shuttle between SIN and KUL for days on end and live primarily at SIN and in Priority Pass lounges.
Would that really be cost-effective?
Probably not, but it’d be a fun experiment!! 🙂
Sleeping at an airport is not restful.
The place to live in an airport is O’Hare. There are many homeless people living there.
Sleeping at Changi can be. In addition to the airport hotel (which is fairly pleasant), the free theater is dark and cool and the volume isn’t too loud, especially if you have ear plugs. If I had to be stuck in an airport for a really long layover, Changi would be my choice but actually trying to stay there for 4 days seems crazy.
I’ve booked a first class awards redemption for January, and I specifically added Changi as a long layover because it’s such an amazing airport. We’ll be there for 9 hours, and I have no doubt we’ll find ways to enjoy our time there.
It’s definitely illegal to get a boarding pass for a flight you don’t intend to take. Laws happen because in the past, someone screwed the pooch hard somewhere and had a litter of puppies. In the case of this law, it was due to the Lockerbie bombing where the bomber was suspected to check in his luggage (i.e the bomb) and never boarded the plane. A few hours later above Lockerbie, *BOOM!!!*, no more plane. So from that day on, it is illegal to buy a boarding pass and not use it. Security issue.
Just don’t get caught.
I have stayed at the airport for more than 1 day, so I can understand it is pretty adventurous and luxury. but the above article is a bit unbelievable but still interesting.
They should have tried a lounge!! I stayed in a lounge in SIN for 8 hours. I took a shower had dimsum and champagne…
They were just a pair of destitute slobs on a shoestring budget.
