Just one more day to transfer SPG points to Virgin Elevate! As you might know, Starwood is dropping Virgin Elevate as transfer partner on January 6, 2017, which is tomorrow! Hopefully you didn’t transfer all those SPG points to Marriott hoping for a Southwest Companion Pass!
ACT NOW if you plan to transfer SPG points to Virgin Elevate!
Each 20,000 SPG points will transfer into 25,000 Elevate points. And since each Virgin Elevate points will be converted to 1.3 Alaska miles. those 25,000 Elevate points will become 32,500 Alaska miles. Essentially 1 SPG points becomes 1.625 Alaska miles, and that is pretty awesome!
Last week I wrote about the dilemma my friend and I facing because of this transfer deadline. On New Year’s Eve, we finally decided what to do! We are transferring 220,000 of her SPG points Virgin this week in four separate transactions – 60,000 three times and 40,000 last. This will net her 275,000 Elevate points, which will become 357,500 Alaska miles. Along with her existing balance of Alaska miles, she will have enough for four roundtrip business class tickets on Cathay Pacific or Japan Airline to Asia!
I am planning to transfer 60,000 SPG points myself, adding to my existing balance of 25,000 Elevate points. I will end up with a nice balance of Alaska miles! Maybe I should plan a trip to Asia in addition to all the trips that I have already planned for 2017?! I do love Singapore and would love to take my family there!

Are Alaska Airline miles any good for someone on the east coast? We live in Florida and it can be difficult to find flights on some west coast airlines. I would love to see Thailand and Cambodia.
Yes! I used to feel the same way living in Ohio. Bu Alaska partners with a ton of airlines and their miles are super valuable
Alaska Virgin flies between Orlando and LAX and soon SFO. From SFO and LAX, you can connect to Japan Airline or Cathay Pacific to Asia! With Alaska awards, you will get a free layover in Tokyo with JAL or Hong Kong with Cathay for as long as you like, before continuing onto Thailand. I would buy a one-way ticket between Thailand or Cambodia (or use miles). And then use Alaska miles to return from Cambodia.
Thank you Sharon!
