A few (okay probably more than a few) months ago, I signed up for the Citi AT&T Access More card. The signup bonus was to spend $2000 in the first 3 months and get a free phone (up to $650 in value). This card is no longer available for new signups, though you can product change to it (but without the free phone signup bonus) I dutifully met the signup bonus and then went to get my phone, through the special link on citicards.com. But when I went to order it, I somehow messed up the verification questions and my order was denied. And then the link was gone! I talked to Citibank and they said that I could just go into an AT&T store and buy the phone on the card, save the receipts and get the reimbursement manually.
Months and months have gone by and I just keep meaning to get to the store to buy this phone but keep putting it off
Okay I’m the worst
I know I know I’m the worst and that it’s horrible that I’ve let $650 just sit around for this long. If you’re horrified by that, you DEFINITELY don’t want to know how many 5-backs with $25 on them that I have in my bedroom just lying around… 😀
But anyways after months of procrastinating, Carolyn finally made up my mind for me by saying that “mama wants a new iPhone”. So… I guess we’re going to use that credit to get her a new phone 🙂
Problems at the AT&T Store
So after all this waiting, tonight I finally went to the store, and the guy said that I can’t buy the phone outright. They said that it’s a fraud prevention mechanism and that I’d have to put the phone on the installment plan, pay for the taxes and such, and then tomorrow I could pay the phone off. According to the guy I talked to, that’s how every store works (but of course they would say that…)
But… I wasn’t sure if that would work for the credit so I thought I’d throw it out to you guys –
Anyone have experience buying the AT&T phone in-store with the Access More card? What’s the best way to do it?

All I know is that I’d try to get it in writing that you’ll be reimbursed buying it that way before you do
This installment does not work with Citi reimbursement. You have to pay for the entire purchase on the Card. Do not be duped.
He’s full of it. He just wants to get credit for the next sign up.
Go to another store and try again, there is no reason they can’t sell you a phone outright.
It’s been over a year but I did it twice. Both times I had problems with the website for some reason. It took a while and the link disappeared. With a phone call they were able to help me find it again. The second was easier because I knew what to do. I’d call again if you haven’t already.
Anyone else get the $650 credit without buying the phone?
