Doctor of Credit is reporting that Visa has asked Plastiq to no longer process mortgage payments. Initially, rent payments did not appear affected, but now it sounds like both rent and home owner’s association fees are affected by this change [Update: Plastiq reached out to us and said that these shouldn’t be affected. Contact them if you are having issues]. You can still make housing payments using a MasterCard or American Express card, though.
This comes on the heels of the news that the Chase Sapphire Reserve card no longer codes as 3x with Plastiq for paying a mortgage, which had been the case for some time. While this was a boon for people looking to quickly accumulate some Ultimate Rewards points, we can all agree that this had to die at some point. Mortgage payments should never have coded as a travel category.
The news is a double-whammy with the coming change to the Citi AT&T Access More card (SEE: BREAKING: Major devaluation to the AT&T Access More card) as you could earn 3x ThankYou points because Plastiq codes as an online purchase. Citi is now restricting the online purchase category to retail and travel.
Using Plastiq to pay your mortgage for some extra points just became a losing proposition in my opinion. Personally, I’ve used Plastiq for little more than making minimum spend when there was no other easy alternative.
Will you still be using Plastiq after these changes?

Is there any other company’s that you can use to pay morgage?
I’m honestly not sure. I’ve not done much research beyond Plastiq. I’m 99% sure VenMo died….not even sure if you could use that to pay mortgage.
We need a reliable alternative
