It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Plastiq. First, they lost the ability to have people pay their mortgages with Visa. Then, the Citi AT&T Access More card announced that they would now only be giving 1X (instead of 3X) on payments with Plastiq. I had some problems a few months ago with Plastiq not making my mortgage payment, but that seems to have been resolved.

Now it seems like Plastiq may be stepping up checks on payments that people make. I don’t know if they’ve seen an uptick in “fake” payments, but my last 4 payments have all received email notices that Plastiq needs more info before they can process the payment
Plastiq delaying my payments
For my last 4 payments, shortly after making the payment, I get an email that looks something like this
These are all people that I have paid several times before with no problems. I’ve managed to get all of these resolved but the process has taken several days, which has been very irritating and frustrating.
Has anyone else experienced these delays? I reached out to my media contact at Plastiq for any comment on why it seems like these checks are becoming much more frequent, but I did not hear anything back.

I haven’t had issues, except not being able to use Visa on mortgage payments.
I think this maybe a sign that their business model might be unsustainable long term
Plastiq is more about cc rewards and hitting min spend for us so we may be willing to deal with the inconveniences. But for the masses, these extra steps will turn them off.
I recently referred my fiancé in order to get the referral bonus and the same thing happened to her. She said, “this is dumb, why do they need all of this info. I’m just going to write a check.” That was the first and last time she used this service.
It’s their security freeze. Happened to me about a year ago or so. When you respond with the required info, it takes care of it. Never happened to me again after that.
I used to do 1k-5k to my SO in her “business” and to my friend for “rent” as my “landlord”.
I’ve had situations, especially after adding a new card, asking for invoices or rental agreements. Nothing google searches and template forms can’t fix for me.
They claim it’s for “our protection” against fraud on our credit card. I understand though and get them what they want.
Did you recently add a new card for these existing payees? Most likely the cause.
Is is still possible to pay mortgages via plastiq using mastercard and/or amex cards? (Presumed the bad news is for visa cards only — yet have others tried m/c or amex?)
Yes – I have been paying mine with a Mastercard still
