Flying Blue, the loyalty program of Air France and KLM), offers a number of promotional awards on the first day of each month. The typical discount is around 20-25%, but they can be as deep as 50%. Promo Awards are mostly for economy flights, but a few awards in business class are usually available.
Flying Blue September 2017 Promo Awards
Flying Blue September 2017 Promo Awards is bookable online, valid for bookings made between September 1 and September 30, 2017, and travel between November 1 and November 30, 2017. This month’s promo awards will get you 25% off the following awards to or from North America:
- New York to Paris Orly in Air France economy class
- Montreal to Europe in KLM economy class
- Calgary to Europe in KLM business class
- Edmonton to Europe in KLM business class
- Vancouver to Europe in KLM or Air France economy class and business class (travel on Air France is valid through December 31, 2017)
with the 25% discount, you can get to Europe for just 37,500 roundtrip in economy or 93,750 miles roundtrip in business class. Award availability is quite excellent at the moment. It’s interesting to see several Canadian cities are included in the sale, perhaps due to the beginning of winter season. Once again though, it’s disappointing to see that New York is the only city in U.S. on the list. The great thing about Flying Blue Promo Awards is that you can use them to travel anywhere within Europe, including Israel! The downside is that you cannot add a domestic segment on Alaska or Delta airlines to reposition.
Here are the terms and conditions of promo awards:

Can these Air France awards be booked with Alaska Milage Plan Miles?
No, you can book KLM and Airfrance flights with Alaska Mileage Plan miles, however, they are at Alaska plan rates and the availability isn’t the same. I just booked my wife and me to Italy and Austria in November. The idea originated with this sale, but for less than 16,000 extra miles one way (business class), I could save about $600 in charges, so I booked one way with Alaska on KLM and the other with United miles on AC and Lufthansa (that calculation was closer with it costing an extra 23,000 miles).
