Who doesn’t love bonus points? Especially when they’re super easy to earn! Currently, American Airlines is teaming up with four partners to offer shoppers up to 10,000 bonus points when they shop. Let’s dive in to see what the four partners are, and how cheaply you can unlock all 10,000 bonus points!

As you can see from the image above, the four partners are: 1-800-Flowers, the AAdvantage eShopping Portal, the AAdvantage Dining program, and Vinesse wines. depending on how many partners you shop with determines the number of bonus points you can earn:

  • 2 partners, earn 2,000 bonus miles
  • 3 partners, earn 5,000 bonus miles
  • All 4 partners, earn 10,000 bonus miles

What’s the catch? In order to trigger the eShopping portal bonus, you’ll need to spend $50 in a single transaction, and to trigger the AAdvantage Dining bonus, you’ll need to spend $25. That got us thinking, how cheaply could you earn these 10,000 points for?

2 for 1

Right off the bat, you can unlock 2,000 bonus miles when you place your 1-800-Flowers order through the AAdvantage eShopping portal. By spending $50 at 1-800-Flowers, you’ll earn 10 miles per dollar, which means you’ll earn an additional 500 points.

Spend $25, get another 3,000 miles

Next, check out the AAdvantage Dining webpage. If you haven’t signed up, do it now! Not only will you earn the next 3,000 bonus miles, but you’ll earn an additional 2,000 miles when you dine at a participating restaurant within 30 days.

You might be surprised with the list of restaurants in your area–one of my favorite bars and a great “date night” shop showed up when I put in my zip code. Not bad, and I’m certainly going to spend $25 at ONE of them in the next 30 days!

The final 5,000 mile hurdle

The final partner, Vinesse Wines, might be the partner that most consumers skip out on. For $41.95, you’ll get 6 wines shipped to you. Things to note: I’ve heard the wines are not that great and this is a subscription service. If you don’t cancel after the first shipment, you’ll continue to get shipments (and billed for them!). If you do complete this step, you’ll earn an additional 5,000 miles, plus 3,000 miles for your first wine shipment.

This is definitely one I WON’T be taking advantage of, which means I’ll miss out on 5,000 miles.

Let’s Recap

If you felt so inclined, for $116.95, you could be the proud owner of up to 14,500 bonus AAdvantage miles! Here’s how we did it:

  • 2,000 points: buying flowers from 1-800-Flowers through the AAdvantage eShopping portal
  • 500 points: when you buy flowers through the shopping portal, you earn 10 points per dollar spent ($50 x 10)
  • 3,000 points: spending at least $25 at an AAdvantage Dining partner restaurant

Final Notes

If you’re interested in earning these bonus points, you’ll want to start now, as this promotion only runs until June 15th. Some of these are easy, and I can see myself earning at least 5,500 points. While that might not sound like a huge amount, I was able to score a flight from Honolulu to Kona for 4,000 points, so it’s possible this promotion could help (in some small way) on your next trip!
