Earlier this week, I was invited to the grand opening of the Southwest Porch Cincinnati. The “Southwest Porch” is a series of areas in public parks. Until this week there were only 2 – one in Bryant Park in New York and one in Klyde Warren Park in Dallas. The Southwest Porch Cincinnati is the 3rd to open and it is downtown in Washington Park
Cincinnati Southwest Porch grand opening
The grand opening of the Cincinnati Southwest Porch was on Thursday September 28th. There were speakers from Southwest Airlines, the CVG Airport board as well as the Cincinnati Center City Development Corp (3CDC). After brief speeches, they had an “official” ribbon cutting as seen in the below video. Dave Harvey from Southwest Airlines along with Christy Samad from 3CDC and a few people whose names I did not catch

The Southwest Porch Cincinnati is located in Washington Park in Over-the-Rhine Cincinnati (just north of downtown). It is on the west side of Washington Park fronting Erich Kunzel Way (Elm Street) nearly directly across from Music Hall. The Cincinnati Southwest Park location is circled in red in the map below
There is ample parking both in the parking garage below Washington Park as well as garages nearby.
Activities at the Southwest Porch Cincinnati
There are a variety of activities or things to do at the Southwest Porch Cincinnati. They have 2 ping pong tables and a giant chess board
as well as a Southwest themed giant Connect Four board
There are a couple of cornhole boards out (with historic Music Hall in the background!)
The boards pay homage to Southwest’s bags fly free policy (SEE ALSO: Keeping track of 17 different pieces of luggage in the airport)

I talked to the people manning the Southwest Porch Cincinnati food and drink area and they said that they are there 7 days a week in the evenings through November 1st, and then opening again in the spring. On the weekends they are open throughout the day.
