Last week, I talked about how I had booked 3 different hotel reservations but gotten 0 upgrades. This is all for our upcoming trip to Peru
One of these hotels was the Grand Hyatt Washington, where I was using the free night certificate on my wife’s account. I was hopeful to add my Diamond err I mean Globalist status onto the reservation, so we could take advantage of things like room upgrades, executive lounge access, etc., so I was wondering if you can add your Globalist number on someone else’s award stay.
Try #1: Twitter
Twitter is usually a good way to get things like this done, so that was my first try
(SEE ALSO: List of airline and hotel Twitter contacts)
Unfortunately, that did not work
Don’t give up! Try #2: Emailing the hotel directly
I got the email address of the hotel (again, from Twitter) and send them a quick note to see if adding your Globalist number to someone else’s award stay was possible.
I didn’t hear anything for a few days but then BOOM! I got this email back from the hotel
Mr. Miller,
We have added your Globalist membership number on the reservation and assigned a room for you and your wife on the 12th floor. Thank you for your loyalty.
We look forward to welcoming you.
Kind Regards,
So I got that goin for me, which is nice. Perhaps the ability to add your own Globalist number to someone else’s award stay is common knowledge, but I did not know it
Did you know about this ability to add your Globalist number to someone else’s award stay?

Why would one need to do this when the globalist can simply book a guest of honor award booking and do a points transfer?
Because this was a free night cert in his wife’s name so that would not be possible.
At the Park Hyatt Zurich, I placed my (then) diamond number in the comments field when booking my wife’s free credit card nights. At check in, I reminded them of me being a diamond and they gave us all the diamond benefits for the two night stay.
So you are trying to abuse a great program knowing it not only infringes the rules but also spoon-feeding it publicly?
YMMV of course, but I’m not sure this qualifies as “abuse”
Literally just walked in the door from doing exactly this for a stay we completed last night. My wife had a free night award, I’m a Globalist. We booked the award then called the hotel to add me to the reservation & made sure to attach my WOH number. We got all the Globalist benefits.
Follow up: no upgrade, but I think the hotel was pretty well booked with both a wedding and a conference of some kind. I also didn’t ask b/c we were with the kids arriving really late and didn’t want to mess around with a crib needing to be moved to another room, so I guess I don’t know if you’d still be eligible for upgrades. But the hotel reached out to me prior welcoming me as a Globalist, asking if they could provide anything, etc etc. We used the free breakfast & they gave us the free internet & whatnot. I wasn’t expecting anything so getting any of that was a nice surprise.
