It’s hard to believe it’s six weeks until I’m getting married! Throughout this process, I’ve been happy to delegate most of the planning to my wonderful partner, Nick, but if there was one thing I was going to do, it was plan the honeymoon!
Unfortunately, we broke the cardinal rule of using points and miles, and that is: ALWAYS BOOK IN ADVANCE. There were something going on that made it hard to nail down a time, which meant that we were stuck planning a two week honeymoon only ~120 days out. Knowing that, you’ll see why we’re not a full points and miles honeymoon, which is disappointing, but not the end of the world! There’s always another trip to take! 😉
The Plan
As you can see, we’re doing stops in Naples (the term stop is being used loosely), Santorini, and London.
Here’s the plan for our flights:
- 8/29: New York-JFK to Naples
- 8/30: Napes to Santorini
- 9/5: Santorini to London-Gatwick
- 9/11: London-Heathrow to New York-JFK
And here’s the plan for our hotels:
- 8/30 – 9/5: an AirB&B on the eastern side of Santorini
- 9/5 – 9/11: a standard room at the Doubletree by Hilton London – West End
Conclusion
In Part 2, we’ll get into the nitty gritty of how we made this trip possible, as well as the number of points spent and earned. If you have any “must-dos” in either Santorini or London, I’d love to know!

Looks like you’re going to have a fun holiday … enjoy it for the rest of us!
If you happen to like wine, check out Gordon’s Wine Bar in London. It is so unique, we loved it. It is right by Embankment Station, so not out of the way if you are riding the tube.
Any reason you picked the east side of Santorini? We are planning a trip there in October 2017 and have yet to book an airbnb!
Hi, Andrew H. This is Nick, Sam’s “wonderful” partner. 😉
We chose the east side of Santorini because the Airbnbs on that side of the island were much nicer for much less money, and we found one that’s 90 feet from the ocean. We knew we’d want to be spending much of our time there on the beach, and the other side of the island is all cliffs, so all of our beach days would start and end with a long car ride. Also, the Airbnb we found has a pool, so we can swim in the ocean and then dunk in the pool! We know we’ll be spending some time on the cliff side of the island to get those amazing sunset views, but for us and what we wanted to do, it made sense to stay on the east side. Hope that helps!
