I got a note in the mail the other day that Avis is now offering $9.99 one way car rentals between airport and downtown locations
Typically I think of most one way car rental deals as going either from Arizona / Florida in the spring or from northern states TO Arizona and Florida in the fall. I maintain a list of one way car rental deals and discount codes as a reference guide.
This promotion from Avis however feels like they are going after the business traveler who is flying into a city and staying there 4-5 days through the week, flying back out for the weekend
Avis one way car rental airport deals
Here are the details of the recent Avis promotion, which you can find on Avis’s website by clicking on Offers -> US offers.
- Thursday to Friday — pick up at the airport, drop downtown
- Sunday to Monday —pick up downtown, drop at the airport
- Keep the car for up to 12 hours; get a free tank of gas and 150 free miles.
- Most car types are $9.99 while Premium, SUVs and Minivans are $14.99 – $17.99
- I don’t currently see an end date for this promotion though obviously it could go away at any time.
The Avis promo site has a list of participating cities / airports but it looked pretty extensive. You don’t need a discount code to book this – in my experience it showed up just fine. Here’s an example for a standard car, though as we all know, you’re FOOLISH to rent a standard car
It took me awhile to figure out how this would work (maybe I’m just slow?) but it looks like the idea would be for a business traveler’s HOME airport. Sunday or Monday (on your way out of town) you pick up the car at the neighborhood location (leaving your own car at the Avis location) then drive to the airport and drop off your rental car. Thursday or Friday when you fly back home, you pick up a rental car, drive it to the neighborhood location, return it, get in your own car and go home. This seems like a decent way to beat high airport parking fees.

No, my company covers my airport parking.
I’m a weekend traveler who doesn’t check Avis often so this information is appreciated 🙂
Thanks! Glad it was able to help
