UPDATE: Reposting this as the last day to transfer is November 30th (Thursday)
You can now transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic and receive 30% bonus. This offer will end November 30, 2017. Here is the basic terms of the bonus offer:
- Minimum transfer is 1,000 Membership Rewards points.
- For each 1,000 Amex points, you will receive 1,300 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles.
- Bonus miles will be awarded at the time of transfer. Offer expires at 11:59 p.m. MT on November 30, 2017.
Like British Airways, Virgin Atlantic adds fuel surcharges to award tickets. While it is in general not a good idea to transfer your valuable Amex points to Virgin Atlantic, there are exceptions. Check out here for the two great ways to take advantage this 30% Amex transfer bonus.
Have you taken advantage of this bonus promotion? If so, where are you heading?

Where am I heading? I’m heading away from your post.
What kind of nonsense is this? I have to click thru to another page to find the 2 great routes? Yeah, that won’t be happening.
completely echo the comments above.
colour me unimpressed
Dan I’ve been a subscriber to your newsletter for a while now but I will be unsubscribing now. I also echo the sentiments above. I open your newsletter and the click through to this page and then have to click through to get another page to get the info. 3 clicks! That’s ridiculous. Compare that to Frequent Miler who has all the information I need in his newsletter and gives me the option for one click for further information.
Bye Felicia!
Earlier this year I did the 30% upgrade to Virgin Atlantic and took their premium economy flights. It was quite the good deal, but still I think we paid $1000 in fuel charges for 2 people roundtrip. The seats were not comfortable, service not good. This was just marginally better than economy. I have learned paying fuel surcharges keeps these bonus transfers a good deal except maybe the cheapest economy seats.
I was able to take advantage of the offer to book IAH-NRT in ANA First Class for less than 185k MR points plus $162.75 in taxes for my wife and I. That has to be one of the best deals currently available in this hobby on a value per point basis.
Glad you could take advantage of this Chris!
